Debarro (Medellín, Colombia) is a world music quintet with folk roots. The band performs covers of traditional music from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Spain, Venezuela, and the U.S., as well as original tunes. De barro means “made of mud” in Spanish but also expresses malleability and constant change. Debarro’s arrangements use jazz, rock, and a mix of Latin music genres to transform the songs while still respecting their folk foundations. The band’s members have studied at Yale University, New England Conservatory, the University of Antioquia, and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, among other institutions, and have a background in Western classical music, Andean folk music, and jazz.
