7:30 – Wendy Eisenberg
“Circles, angles, arcs, lines, intersections, Wendy Eisenberg is an explorer, inventor, author, observer, reporter, and much more. On the vanguard of the new new school, where teacher and student are irrelevant distinctions, Wendy has smelted these fine alloys for you; to build a skyscraper with a new type of scaffold.” – Matt Pike, Founder of HEC Tapes.
This is to say, Wendy is a composer, improviser, songwriter and guitarist working hard and hardly working in the northeast of America, with records on Feeding Tube, NNA, HEC, and (forthcoming) VDSQ and Tzadik. Her program on the 22nd of June is in honor of her mother’s birthday.
8:30 – Umbrella Pine
Since first meeting at Berklee College of Music in 2013, Magdalena Abrego and Allison Burik have cultivated their sound as a duo in a project titled Umbrella Pine. By utilizing a combination of alto saxophone, bass clarinet, electric guitar, and electronics, the two seek to explore possibilities within improvisation. The project features original compositions as well as arrangements of music by Eric Dolphy, Albert Ayler, and others.
